Frequently Asked Questions

An SSL (secure sockets layer) certificate installed on your domain provides assurance that transport layer security (TLS) secure communication protocols are being used. This protects your users and their sensitive data when using insecure connections. Equally important for the security of your website is to ensure that no lapsed (or obsolete) TLS protocols are being used, putting the site at risk of vulnerabilities.

The checking tool provided by the certification authority gives your domain an evaluation rating level between A and F. The analysis includes the server configurations for three categories: protocol support, support for exchanging public keys, and encryption support. Each of these categories is graded and contributes to an overall evaluation score between 0 and 100. Each evaluation rating corresponds to a score range (e.g. <20 for F, >=80 for A). Certificates that are not trusted will be awarded a T.

A low rating can be the result of many different factors, the most common being how up to date your website's SSL/TLS protocols are. If obsolete TLS protocols are found, website users could be at risk of vulnerabilities, so the SSL checking tool will produce a lower rating.

It’s important to make sure you are using a recent version of the SSL encryption protocol, in addition to downloading the security patches for SSL/TLS.
